Summer cool palette and colors that suit

What to look at when actually buying something as a summer cool. Eight colors, the makeup direction, and what this season's character is.

The light, soft end of the cool, blue-cast colors. Color that is too vivid gets seen before the face does, while color softened by a step makes the skin read smooth. This is the season that carries grey-blended colors best.

The hex codes here are values we picked to show each color family on screen. They are not any company's color chart or an official standard, and another studio's "coral" is a different value. Use them for direction rather than for specifying an exact color, and bear in mind that every screen renders color differently.

Direction to look in

Lip
Rose pink and mauve. A pink softened by a step works better than a vivid orange-cast red.
Blush
Soft pink and lavender-cast pink.
Base
A light base with a touch of pink. A strongly yellow one can sit on top rather than blend.
Metal and jewellery
Silver, white gold, brushed silver.
Clothes
Lilac, powder blue, soft navy. Charcoal or soft navy sits more gently than black.
Directions that may suit you less
Strongly orange-cast colors, very vivid primaries, and deep browns. Again, this is about what happens near the face.

This result is a self-test for reference

This result is a self-test meant as a reference, and it may differ from a professional in-person analysis (draping). Draping holds real fabric under the face one piece at a time, which reveals more than a questionnaire can. The questions have their own limits too: the colors your screen renders, the light you are sitting in, even a bad night's sleep showing in your face all end up in the answers. Before buying makeup, trying it on your own skin in the shop is still the better way to choose.
